Les verbes qui changent
Picture
We sometimes call stem-changing verbs "shoe verbs."  Conjugations outside the "shoe" are normal.  Conjugations inside the "shoe" change.  The second to last "e" or "é" from the end becomes "è" to preserve the sound of the word.  Also, some verbs double the last consonant and "-yer" verbs have a change to "i" inside the "shoe."

Les conjugaisons à l’extérieur de la « chaussure » sont normales.  Les conjugaisons à l’intérieur de la « chaussure » changent.  C’est l’avant-dernier « e » ou « é » qui devient « è » ou bien, la dernière consonne qui double, ou bien, le « y » final qui devient « i ».
