What school did you attend when you were in Madame's Class?
Milton High School in Milton, GA.
Which classes did you take with Madame Steinhauer?
French 2H & French 3H
What was your French name?
Madeleine
Have you been to a French-speaking country since you last saw Madame S.?
I have traveled to France every summer since the summer before my junior year, and I am now a freshman in college with plans to study abroad for 3 months this summer and to minor in French. While traveling to France, I have had some of the best experiences of my life. There are surprisingly a lot of cultural differences, and it was awesome seeing how different people lived, and I loved being able to speak in French everyday.
What have you done with your French since I saw you last? Is there anything I can share with my current students about what you have been able to do with your language skills?
My junior year, I stayed in Nantes for a few days with some of the exchange students that I had hosted through the Milton Exchange Program.
Is there anything about class that you remember that you want to share with my current students?
Speak French in class every day (unless you want the "singe" thrown at you). But really - through just chatting in French in class and trying to communicate with the French I knew, I can not tell you how much my French improved the two years I was in her class. I could definitely say her class was hard for me, but the last couple months of the 3 H class was what made me decide to pursue French and languages for the rest of my life.

Have you studied/learned any other languages since you were in Madame's class?
Yes, Italian, Portuguese, Chinese.
Have you been to a French-speaking country since you last saw Madame S.? If so, what can you tell my students about it?
Yes, France for an internship with Terre des Langues and as a chaperone on the foreign exchange trip.
Is there anything about class that you remember that you want to share with my current students?
Take advantage of the amazing opportunities Madame gives you to improve your French, be it homework or oral practice. I would not be a French major or looking into going into the Peace Corps if it wasn't for Madame!

Which classes did you take with Madame Steinhauer?
French 1 and French 2

What was your French/Italian name (if you remember)?
Geneviève

Have you studied/learned any other languages since you were in Madame's class? If so, which language(s)? Did knowing one language help you learn another language or be a better language learner in general?
I have been learning Italian on Duolingo. Knowing conversational French and knowing Spanish (my native language) has helped me tremendously in learning Italian.

Is there anything about class that you remember that you want to share with my current students?
I always enjoyed hearing Madame's stories of her time in the peace corps and her travels around the world. Her class was very interactive and entertaining. You can tell that she really cares about her students and wants to make learning French a memorable experience for them.

Which was the last year you were in class with Madame
2007

What have you done with your French/Italian since I saw you last? Is there anything I can share with my current students about what you have been able to do with your language skills?
I have been able to converse with tourists and people from different French-speaking countries, and we have understood one another perfectly. I am considering going into interpreting, flight attending, or getting a Master's degree and becoming a foreign language teacher like Madame. It's a gift to be able to speak different languages, but I believe it is an even greater gift to use those languages to connect with others.

My hero and inspiration,
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968

"Make a career of humanity. Commit yourself to the noble struggle for equal rights. You will make a greater person of yourself, a greater nation of your country, and a finer world to live in."    - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
“Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristotle to serve. You don’t have to know Einstein’s “Theory of Relativity” to serve. You don’t have to know the Second Theory of Thermal Dynamics in Physics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace, a soul generated by love.”   - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
